Jill Hosmer featured in Center for Arts & History's new Local Artist Spotlight

The LCSC Center for Arts & History (CAH) presents the first exhibition for the new Local Artist Spotlight program: Jill Hosmer - An Exhibition of Watercolor Paintings. The opening reception for the exhibition will take place Thursday, July 25, from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Hosmer will lead docent tours starting at 6:00 p.m. in the upstairs galleries. The exhibition runs July 25 - August 10.
Hosmer's aspirations are simple. "I always want to do a better painting," she says. It is this elusive goal, always on the horizon, that Hosmer says keeps her both motivated and moving.
Hosmer's training comes from a wide range of sources including the San Francisco Art Institute and Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. She also has a master's degree from San Diego State University and her Bachelor of Arts degree is from Los Angeles State University.
Now a resident of Clarkston, Hosmer grew up in the San Francisco Bay area. She says rolling fog banks and other weather phenomena triggered an inspirational flow as a source for her painting when she moved to the Lewis-Clark Valley, particularly the captivating skies. Most of her paintings focus on the vistas from the edge of the Palouse, looking towards the valley, the distant plateaus, and Blue Mountains beyond. Hosmer describes herself as a sky painter. "Painting the sky and how it interacts with the land allows a certain freedom, a kind of abstraction, inventiveness not found in painting buildings."
The Local Artist Spotlight featuring Jill Hosmer is brought to the LCSC Center for Arts & History through grants from US Bancorp, the Idaho Commission on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts. CAH believes strongly in the local artistic community. In order for local artists to thrive, CAH recognizes the importance of supporting them by providing opportunities to further their work. The Center for Arts & History Local Artist Spotlight program features three to four local artists in a variety of different media in a quality exhibition space each exhibit season (August - July).
The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are welcome.
